FAIRBURY – Charlotte Endorf will present a program titled Nebraska Spirit: The North Platte Canteen at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at Gardenside long-term care in Fairbury. The program is free and open to the public.
During World War II, American soldiers from across the country rolled through North Platte on troop trains en route to Europe and the Pacific. Endorf’s program will explore the story of the community that turned a railroad depot into a legend and touched the lives of more than 6 million soldiers from 1942 to 1946.
The program is sponsored by the Nebraska Humanities and Gardenside long-term care through the NH Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau connects Nebraskans with more than 165 authors, historians, scholars, musicians and storytellers who give performances and speak on diverse topics.
